History

Amazonite is said to have adorned the shields of Amazonian tribal women warriors from around the 10th century B.C. This beautiful green stone is also linked to the Egyptians. Ancient Egyptians carved Chapter Seven, The Judgment of Osiris, of the Book of the Dead onto slabs of Amazonite and the gold death mask found in King Tutankhamun’s tomb was also adorned with Amazonite. They believed these stones were a symbol of fertility and good luck.

Thought to have originally been found near the Amazon river there are no longer any deposits of Amazonite found in this location. It is found in a number of other locations around the world including Russia, Madagascar, Brazil and the U.S.
