Blue Agate

Chakra - Throat

Blue agate and blue lace agate are interchangeable names of the same type of banded stone. It is one of the prettiest stones you will ever see. With delicate bands and patterns, this stone can bring feelings of tranquillity and calm.
The main notable difference between the two is the intensity of the colour. Blue Lace Agate is a much softer, lighter, natural blue and is said to be the stone of communication. Blue Agate, with it's darker hues is known as a talisman with great healing energies.
Whichever shade you prefer, it relates to the Throat Chakra and will help with any problems surrounding this area.

History
Agate was given its name by Theophrastus, a Greek philosopher who discovered the stone in the Achates River in Sicily sometime between 400 and 300 BC. In its natural form, Agate is often grey. The colour in Blue Agate is most often achieved through dyeing with the colour of Blue Lace Agate occurring naturally but sometimes being enhanced through dyeing. One of the most important centres for cutting and dyeing agate is in Germany where the secret of dyeing has been closely guarded since the 16th century.
