Hematite is a shiny, metallic grey coloured stone and is the most powerful gemstone to use for grounding. If you feel like your life is chaotic and your mind is all over the place then this is the crystal you need to work with. It can help align, balance and centre your base chakra helping you feel more grounded and secure. A great tool to have if you have moved house or changed jobs recently.

Hematite can also help absorb negative energy coming from other people or environments. It works by drawing the energy down to the base chakra where it stabilises and neutralises its harmful effects. This also makes Hematite a good protecting crystal as well.

History

Hematite is an iron oxide mineral. The name is derived from the Greek word for blood “haima” due to the colour it goes when ground-up. Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans, used ground Hematite on their bodies to create a red paint-like appearance thought to keep them safe in battle. It has also been used to create cave paintings during the Patheolithic era.

Hermatite was also used for medicinal purposes in ancient times. It was used to treat blood related disorders because of its iron oxide properties.
