Chakra - Third Eye & Throat

Sodalite is connected to the Third Eye and the Throat Chakras but its gentle effects also work well on the Sacral Chakra.

It is best known for its ability to calm and bring clarity. It connects the heart and head allowing you to show the most authentic version of yourself.

If you are struggling to express yourself to others and holding back your truth due to fear, then Sodalite is the crystal for you.

Sodalite is a great crystal to meditate with. Place it close to your body, especially your third eye or throat Chakra to balance these energy centres and clear any blockages.

History

Sodalite takes its name from the Latin word 'sodalitas' meaning 'comrade'. Commonly blue in colour, it is also found with flecks of white, grey and green.

Sodalite is often confused with other blue stones such as lapis lazuli. The most obvious way to tell these two stones apart is sodalite does not have the flecks of pyrite that are found in most formations of lapis lazuli. Modern methods of identification have revealed that sodalite also has a florescent quality and therefore glows when exposed to ultraviolet light.

The Ancient Egyptians often used sodalite as an alternative to lapis lazuli. There is also a myth that God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses engraved on tablets of sapphire. This is likely to have been a misnomer for sodalite which occurs in large pieces.

Said to have first been discovered in Greenland in the early 1800s, there are are other stories of it being discovered thousands of years earlier, around 3000BC but being lost to humanity between the 1st and 19th centuries when it was rediscovered.
